Green Genius Switches on the Largest Single-Site Solar Park in the Baltics

A record-breaking 120.8 MW solar park has commenced operations in the Jēkabpils region, Latvia. This is the largest project in the Baltic States by installed capacity, concentrated at a single site, representing a EUR 96 million investment by the renewable energy company Green Genius. Due to its significant importance to the national energy sector, the company managing this project has been granted the status of an enterprise of national security importance in Latvia. Construction of a 50 MW/100 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is also underway at the site; once complete, it will transform the facility into a highly efficient hybrid energy hub.

The solar park is expected to generate approximately 140 GWh of green electricity per year—enough to meet the annual energy needs of thousands of households or fully charge more than 3,8 million smartphones every single day. This output will result in an annual reduction of 141,000 tons of CO2 emissions. By combining large-scale generation with an integrated storage system, the project significantly strengthens regional energy independence and ensures greater grid stability at all times of day.

“Projects of this scale deliver tangible value to the power system by increasing local generation, reducing dependence on imports, and providing market stability,” says Ruslanas Sklepovičius, CEO of Green Genius. “Solar parks combined with energy storage solutions are becoming the critical infrastructure necessary for a successful long-term energy transition.”

The project’s scale is reflected in its physical footprint, covering 153 hectares—an area comparable to 215 football pitches. Stretching 3.5 kilometers in length. The facility comprises 183,000 solar modules, with power transmission managed by 312 inverters and 11 transformer substations. During peak construction periods, the project employed up to 250 specialists on-site simultaneously.
